Tottenham midfielder David Bentley admits the Barclays Premier League's bottom club have become a laughing stock.
Spurs have claimed just two points from their first seven matches - their worst start to a season since 1912.
"I know people are having a laugh at the fact we are bottom of the league at the moment but it's up to everyone at the club to stop the jokes," said Bentley.
"We're not happy with what has been happening. You cannot hide from the situation but what we need are a team of leaders who take responsibility. We have to grow as people.
"We have more than enough good players at Tottenham to get us out of this situation and I give my word that we will."
Manager Juande Ramos, having been in the job for just under a year, is under increasing pressure while questions are being asked of sporting director Damien Comolli's activity in the transfer market, allowing experienced strikers Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe to all leave the club in the last 10 months without finding suitable replacements.
Bentley, who moved to White Hart Lane from Blackburn in the summer for £15million, does not regret the switch to north London and is backing Ramos to turn things around.
"I'm fully behind him, 100%," the 24-year-old told The Sun. "I still love being at Spurs and I don't regret joining the club for one second.
"I know I haven't been at my best but I haven't become a bad player in a fortnight. The manager believes in me.

On Monday, the House of Representatives decided against "socialized banking" and used fiscal restraint for once. What a bright idea. After all, the fundamental cause of this financial crisis is a lack of restraint by the consumer. Why reward that by eliminating the right to fail? More importantly, why allow the Federal Reserve, which has been screwing with our economy since it started printing its own money (money not based in any valuable commodity, like gold), to centralize America's credit? That's right out of Karl Marx's playbook.

Steve McClare does a nice job of recapping the history of pro soccer in Seattle in his latest European Weekly article.
Yesterdays elimination draws a line under the USL chapter, but unlike the other times, there are significant links that makes this change almost more of a promotion than a reincarnation. Adrian Hanauer, the man who owns the current club and will form part of the ownership group of the new one, said The USL is the name of a league. Were going to have professional football in this city and a bunch of the guys are going to be here. A lot of the same people are going to be involved in the organization. Perhaps Im not maybe as sentimental as I should be or maybe will be some day in hindsight. Certainly I understand that were closing a big chapter in USL but opening a big exciting new one.

During the MLS All-Star Game, a flurry of MLS and Adidas sponsored commercials were passed. All of them showed the same thing, the one thing that I have the most passion for: Youth Development. Some featured David Beckham kicking around with some kids from an island off of England and others showing other MLS stars coaching kids. It was one simple statement that one player made that is one key point today. Its a fun life, but you have to earn it. He is talking about being a pro and the hard work it takes to simply earn a spot. After reviewing a California State Colleges 3-week workout/training program, I was amazed at the level of condition that college athletes are in. The next levels training program would surely blow my mind away. It is my personal opinion that our youth need to have the aforementioned simple statement drilled into their heads over and over again. Too many youth kids get by on talent alone and never even make it to college(which is sad) because they never develop the work ethic that is required at the next level.
The next levels work ethic totally blows my mind away. I can not say for certain but I do know that Mexican clubs train 2-3 times a day with very few days off. Our current youth movement practices 2-3 times a week. Colleges go everyday, 1 time, with the occasional 2-a days. So, their is a dramatic progression on the scale, like taking step by step then, ten steps at one time. I think todays youth needs to practice at a higher level or more times a week. They also need to know what it takes to get to the next level. My dream is for the next generation of U.S. soccer is a World Cup Championship, but with that dream comes the realization that much hard work is needed.
My next point is from an article that I recently read about Joey Barton. Barton played for Man City and is now with Newcastle United. He has been in a bit of trouble to say the least. But I think the media have hyped his story, not to say that a trip to prison is not big news. Joey Barton is a perfect example for my main point. That is, living the life is not all that is hyped up to be. In society, common folk rarely see celebrities from sports, film, or glamor outside in the normal world. The normal world being: the movie theatre, normal shopping malls, and many other common folk gatherings. The reason is a perfectly good one, these people would literally be killed by the amount of people hounding them for their attention. So, some of Bartons incidents can be forgiven. Another part of being a pro is the amount of pressure to perform and to be literally owned. Many famous pros having commented on what goes on behind the scenes. Players playing hurt or on an extreme amount of pain medication. Or pressure from management to perform. I think on the outside, it looks like the perfect life, as easy as getting on your favorite ride at Disney World and not getting off for a long time. My second point: We can easily criticize on the outside, but in the end, do people come to your job, harass you, publish hundreds of stories on your life, and then throw you in jail for simply fighting back?
From start to finish, my two comments today are about the start of soccer in youth, to the end with being a professional.

A rental car is a helpful tool in seeing and experiencing everything that Argentina has to offer.
This is the first of a three series guide about amazing travel circuits in Argentina. For this segment we are focusing on the Patagonia region. A portion of a WorthPlaying interview with David Nathanielsz, executive producer at Vicarious Visions
WP: Visually, the Wii doesnt have the resolution, but otherwise, the Wii actually seems to have more features. Theres a jam mode in the Wii version thats not in the other two versions. Can you talk about that a little bit?
DN: Yeah, we spent the last year really dedicating ourselves to getting all the features for Guitar Hero World Tour onto the Wii. Weve got the core game, weve got all the songs, weve got the music studio where you can create your own songs, weve got Guitar Hero Tunes where you can upload and share them with users, weve got downloadable content with an in-game music store, and then like you said, weve got Mii Freestyle, which is a mode exclusive to the Wii. Its really sort of a pick-up-and-play, create your own music jam, improvise mode for Wii users to bring their Miis into the game and see them rock out on stage.
WP: Weve heard reported with the various music games over the last year or two that doing downloadable content on the Wii either was impossible or wasnt allowed. What was it that allowed you guys to actually implement the downloadable content? The fact that users couldnt buy songs with Guitar Hero III was one of their biggest complaints. Now they can do it with World Tour. How did that come about?
DN: We wanted to get downloadable content into Guitar Hero for a while, but we didnt want to release it until it was done right. Its true, the Wii can do it! Weve got an in-game music store, accessible right off the main menu, so from the game, you can pull up the store, see whats available for DLC, purchase it in-game, download it your system memory, put it on an SD card, and back it up. Its all seamless in-game in terms of how you play that downloadable content. You just go to the setlist page and build your setlist. You can put on-disc songs, you can put downloadable content in your setlist, you can even put GH Tunes songs that other players have created and youve gone and downloaded. Its all very seamless, and loading those songs in on your system memory for you in your setlist, I promise you it can be done.

Another era kicked off at upton Park this week and skipper Lucas Neill believes it has taken little time for new boss Gianfranco Zola to make an impact on the West Ham squad.
The Italian may have held his first training session on Monday, but he conducted a 15-minute meeting with the players on his arrival on Friday.
And it appears that the former Chelsea star’s positive approach and reputation as a top player has already rubbed off on the squad, according to Neill.
“He was very welcoming and very excited, as were the players,” said the defender.
“He is someone we have all looked up to as a player an admired his ability on the pitch.
“He’s come in and said he would like to teach us a few things that have stood him in good stead in his career and he can’t wait to work with us because he likes the squad that he’s inherited.
“He is eager to get started, and we can’t wait to learn the game plans and other things he wants to teach us.”
As a player, most notably at Stamford Bridge between 1996-2003, Zola was a master of exciting, attacking football. The 42-year has promised to deliver an equally exciting style of play to Upton Park.
That is a far cry from predecessor Alan Curbishley, who was heavily criticised for taking a negative approach to matches.
And Neill, for one, can’t wait for the more eye-pleasing football to kick in, although he admits he might take some time to come to fruition.
“Mr Zola has already expressed his desire to play out from the back and play a more creative brand of football, a bit more patience and passing which we all want to play anyway,”said Neill.
“It’s just a case of getting us confident enough to do it.
“So it's going to be interesting. There’s a lot of work to be done on the training ground.”
Neill also insisted that the West Ham players owe former boss Curbishley a debt of gratitude – despite the pair having regular bust-ups.
The Australian international admitted he had a row with the 50-year-old after the Blackburn game, which proved to be Curbishley’s last match in charge.
But Neill – who also insisted that team spirit remained high in the squad despite the managerial transition – said: “We had arguments maybe once every four or five months and that just happened to be a very small one when we’d won.
“It was something and nothing and we apologised to each other five minutes after we spoke.
“People are trying to create an angle and make something up when there was very little in it.” He added: “We are aware of the frustrating and difficult circumstances that Alan Curbishley had.
“We don’t need to talk about why he went or the reasons – we can just be grateful for what he did for us.
“I think I talk about all of us from West Ham, including the fans, in wishing him well because he helped keep us up, had a difficult time last year with the squad and got us off to a good start this year.

Jessica Zimmerman is having a little more fun when she steps onto the soccer field this year. Then again, after playing most of last season with a broken kneecap, almost anything would be an upgrade. Zimmerman, a red-shirt junior entering her senior year of college, is finding a niche on the University of Northern Colorado women's soccer team as one of the team's most prolific and perhaps toughest players.

Two years on from Sven-Goran Erikssons quick gamble on Theo Walcott, and the flutter has finally paid off for England. The then 17-year-olds selection for the 2006 World Cup was a surprise at the time and a mistake in retrospect. Eriksson found the youngster was not quite the player he expected and felt unable to entrust him with a role in the team.
But at the grand old age of 19, Walcott has shaken off that stigma of failure following his stunning hat-trick in Englands 1-4 away win in Croatia last night.
The youngster has taken his fair share of criticism and scrutiny in the 27 months since he didnt play in the World Cup. Even the normally over-protective Arsene Wenger has taken the occasional pop at his young protégé, including suggesting that the ex-Southampton player was not progressing at the rate he had expected.

The Los Angeles Galaxy is one of three Major League Soccer franchises that turned a net profit in 2007, according to a new valuation report put together by Forbes. The independent study, which uses past transactions as its guide, sheds a great deal of light on the relatively mysterious finances of the league, a subject left to debate in the past due to a lack of substantive information offered up by MLS.
Along with the Galaxy ($4.0 million), the other two clubs that posted a positive operating income last year were Toronto FC ($2.1 million) and FC Dallas ($0.5 million). On the other side of the financial spectrum sits the Columbus Crew, with a reported operating loss of -$4.5 million in 2007, mainly due to a lack of sponsorship while playing in the leagues second-smallest market.
As a whole, Major League Soccer posted an operating loss of $20 million a year ago on revenue of $165 million, meaning the leagues 13 teams averaged revenues of $12.69 million. To put that in context, the average National Football League team pulls in annual revenues in the $200 million range and any given National Hockey League team commands revenue of $81 million.
The average MLS franchise is worth $37 million, with three teams worth over $40 million each. Topping the list once again is the Galaxy, with an estimated value of $100 million, the first club in the league to reach such a milestone. Their success has been driven by the wild popularity of David Beckham, prompting his followers to snatch up 300,000 new Galaxy jerseys shortly after his arrival in the US.
Heres a complete list of what Forbes estimates each team to be worth:
1. Los Angeles Galaxy - $100 million
2. Toronto FC - $44 million
3. Chicago Fire - $41 million
4. FC Dallas - $39 million
5. New York Red Bulls - $36 million
6. D.C. United - $35 million
7. Houston Dynamo - $33 million
8. Colorado Rapids - $31 million
9. Real Salt Lake - $30 million
10. New England Revolution - $27 million
11. Chivas USA - $24 million
12. Columbus Crew - $23 million
13. Kansas City Wizards - $22 million
In a sign of the leagues growing financial clout, the fee to land an expansion team has risen from $10 million in 2006 (Toronto FC) to $30 million in 2008 (Seattle Philadelphia). Commissioner Don Garber says the next two teams into the league will have to fork over $40 million each, while there has even been talk of further raising the price to $50 million for teams after that.
I expect soccer franchises to trade in the $80-100 million range within the next three years, said Richard Schaefer, president of Golden Boy Promotions, which recently bought a 50% stake in the Houston Dynamo from Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG).
Real Salt Lake is poised to join the ranks of profitable MLS franchises over the next year, as they will begin playing in their newly-built soccer-specific stadium in less than a month. The club forecasts that their revenue will increase from $7.6 million to $20.3 million in 2009, as they will be controlling their own stadium and will receive additional revenue from sponsorships, concessions and non-soccer events hosted there. The New York Red Bulls should follow in RSLs footsteps, as Red Bull Arena is scheduled to officially open late next year.
Heres the operating income/loss estimates for each team:
1. Los Angeles Galaxy, $4.0 million
2. Toronto FC, $2.1 million
3. FC Dallas, $0.5 million
4. Chivas USA, -$1.0 million
5. New England Revolution, -$1.5 million
6. Houston Dynamo, -$1.8 million
7. Real Salt Lake, -$2.1 million
8. Colorado Rapids, -$2.2 million
9. Kansas City Wizards, -$2.9 million
10. D.C. United, -$3.0 million
11. Chicago Fire, -$3.1 million
12. NY Red Bulls, -$4.5 million (tie)
12. Columbus Crew, -$4.5 million (tie)

PRESS RELEASE
The Springfield Soccer Club traveled to Columbia, MO over the Labor Day weekend to participate in the Carrera 4 Girls Midwest Invitational. The Springfield S.C. 95/95 I Girls captured the Under 13 Division Championship and the Springfield S.C. 91/92 Girls (pictured) playing up in the Under 18 Division also brought home a Championship.
“We chose to attend this event because we received great reviews from participants in 2007 and we were not disappointed with the event. The competition was good the fields were great and the host club Carrera SC did a fantastic job with the tournament.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield S.C. “This is definitely an event that we will send more teams to next year as each team was guaranteed four games over two days and early in the season it is great to get an extra game under our belts.”
Both teams also compete in the Heartland Soccer Association (Kansas City) League. “Getting good games this early in the season and having success will hopefully allow us to do well in league play. Both teams are in the second division and these games should help us to challenge for league titles.” said Alumbaugh. The Under 17 team has already completed 8 games in the last two weeks including a game vs. Neosho Community College and a team in the Midwest Regional League. Both teams will also compete in the Metro United Girls College Showcase in November, which is rated as the # 1 Girls Tournament in Region II.
Finding the best competition early allows the older teams to be prepared for the heavy schedule of college showcase events in November and December. Giving players the opportunity to compete in front of college coaches is one of the biggest goals for the Springfield S.C. Players from the two teams come from Springfield, Bolivar, Lebanon and Willard.

Sarah Palin is not a feminist, but to conservative women she might as well be. The staunchly pro-life mother of five children represents more than a surprising vice presidential choice for John McCain; to republican women she is a sign of hope. On Wednesday night, she became the first woman in history to get the vice president nod on a Republican ticket.

FYM FACULTY LECTURES
Changing the Moral Climate Elise Springer, Assistant Professor of Philosophy
PAC 002
Global problems raise new challenges for ideas about moral responsibility. Many call for a stricter "green conscience" that considers our effects on remote people and systems. Yet ecological thinking also dissolves familiar ideas of individual interests and individual morality. In this session, Professor Springer considers how we move beyond guilt and blame towards a more radical understanding of interdependence.
Climate Policy and Interdisciplinary Scholarship
Gary Yohe, Professor of Economics, Woodhouse/Sysco Professor of Economics
PAC 001
In November of 2007, 160 countries at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change unanimously consented that active response to climate change involves variations of risk management. When we turn to consider this conclusion's implications for framing climate policy over the next decade and beyond, care will be taken to show how the social sciences offer insight into the warnings of natural scientists.
Decision Time: A Scientist and a Humanist Discuss Energy Scarcity and Global Climate Change
Brian Stewart, Associate Professor of Physics
Krishna Winston, Professor of German Studies
Woodhead Lounge
Brian Stewart, Associate Professor of Physics, specializes in molecular physics. Krishna Winston, Professor of German Studies, specializes in modern German literature and literary translation. They will discuss threats to the environment, the implications for the survival of the human race, and ways their disciplines can contribute to taking effective action.
Social Knowledge and Climate Change
Paul Erickson, Assistant Professor of History
Shanklin 107
In the past 50 years scientists have learned an enormous amount about how the earth is likely to respond to increased greenhouse gas concentrations. Over the same period, interpretive social scientists have learned much about identifying environmental problems, scientific consensus, the policy process, and the social impacts of new technologies. This talk explores the intersection of these two bodies of research by reexamining some classic moments from the past and present of the global climate change debate.
