NBA FanHouse. Watson got his start writing for The Roto Times and Fantasy Hot Sheet, moved on to penning fantasy sports columns for USA Today online, and launched Detroit Bad Boys back in re thrilled to have himas youll see, the man knows his Pistons (and his NBA). Later this week well feature another Pistons expert, Natalie Sitto of Need4Sheed.com. Were psyched for that one too, but first things first: lets hear from Mr. Matt Watson.
Empty the Bench: Despite the six straight appearances in the Conference Finals, the core of this Detroit Pistons team has gone to the NBA Finals only twice and won it all just once. Is it a fair to say this group has developed a reputation for choking under pressure?
Matt Watson: This is a difficult question to answer. On the one hand, yes, this team has definitely squandered some opportunities; that’s impossible to deny. But on the other hand, it’s really, really hard to win a title. In the last 25 years, only seven different teams have done it. Think about that: seven teams in 25 years.
Since the Pistons last won in 2004, they’ve gone on to lose to the eventual champion three times in four years. Did they choke, or were they simply not the better team? Considering teams simply don’t win on accident in this league, I think it’s the latter.
In a perfect world, I’ll admit that the Pistons should have at least one more ring on their fingersI’m still in shock that Rasheed left Horry openbut I can’t hold it against them. Since losing to Detroit in 2004, the Lakers missed the playoffs completely in 2005, lost in the first round the next two years, and lost again in the Finals last year. After beating the Pistons (and in turn the Mavericks) in 2006, the Heat proceeded to lose in the first round the following season and posted the worst record in the league last year. From a fan’s perspective, who’s been the most fun to cheer for? (The correct answer, of course, is San Antonio, but Detroit has to be second, right?)
ETB: At times seeming disinterested and often being outhustled and embarrassed by Kevin Garnett, what do you make of Rasheed Wallace’s disappearing act in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals?
Watson: I wish I knew the answer. Considering he averaged his fewest minutes per game in a decade during the regular season, I figured he’d have something left in reserve for the playoffs. Instead, the more the Pistons needed him, the more he faded.
His showing in the final game against the Celtics was a complete disaster. I know some people have tried to use his strained relationship with Flip Saunders as an excuse, but if anything Saunders erred by giving Wallace too much respect.

Is anything more under the radar on the Wisconsin sports scene than the Bucks? Not only has training camp started, they had an exhibition game tonight! Yeah, they lost by 38. No, seriously, they started already. With the Brewers playing October baseball for the first time since I was 6, and the heart of the Packers/Badgers football season stealing the rest of the headlines...the Bucks are even a bigger afterthought than normal. That will happen when your team is expected to win 40 games - at very best. I'm still convinced that if they loaded the Mayflower trucks and headed to Las Vegas tomorrow, about 1,200 die hards would be pissed off: that's it. I'll let some ESPN writer provide a preview...God knows I don't follow this mess:
Nonetheless, there are just too many holes here for the Bucks to succeed with the reckless quick-fix approach that they're pursuing. The frontcourt is a mess, and if they have any injuries at all they'll be in a totally untenable situation. In the backcourt, the Bucks appear to have three backup point guards and no starters.
The sum of it all is that, basically, I don't get it. Milwaukee has capped itself out for three years and stuck itself with several midcareer players who are almost certain to decline in coming seasons, and for what? The chance to go 38-44 and get swept in the first round of the playoffs? Have they sunk so far that this is the new standard of success?
If so, they may be able to clear their lowered bar and declare victory. More likely, though, their still-numerous holes will keep them scrambling for more veteran retreads, and they'll sink deeper into salary-cap hell while losing the battle of the treadmill.

I am playing in a fantasy football league this fall. This is my first fantasy football team. I am not sure what finally motivated me to sign up. Friends invited me the previous two years and I turned them down for several reasons: time, a lack of appreciation for football in general, an apathy for pro football in particular. And these reasons precede even thinking about the larger fan implications: rooting for individual player success over team success, rooting for players on ‘hated’ rivals.
With plenty of reasons not to play, I am still surprised that I took the plunge. I am glad I did, however. Playing fantasy football has given me a new perspective on another area of my life — Fantasy Wedding, my real bread and butter.
Fantasy Wedding is a completely different animal from Fantasy Football. First off, there is no draft in Fantasy Wedding — you are the team. Second, points are not based on some distant sporting event — instead they come from each and every wedding that you, the player, I mean guest, are a part of.
Here is how the scoring works:
3 points – If you are the Maid of Honor or the Best Man
2 points – If you are in the Bridal Party
1 point – If you are otherwise involved in the wedding, e.g. florist, usher etc.
Of course you can land multiple points if you fill multiple rolls at the same wedding. If you are standing in the Bridal Party and you mailed all the invitations, well that’s 3 Fantasy points for you. Also, you can score from the same position multiple times. If you are the usher for 8 straight weddings, then you take home 8 points. Great work.
Fantasy Football prompted the recent revelation that I am a Fantasy Wedding stud. Right now I am sitting at 11 Fantasy points. By the end of next summer I will be up to 15. I know that 15 is a marvelous accomplishment because one of my buddies is getting married next summer (there’s two of my points) has zero points. In fact, he first attended a wedding 3 months ago.
I started talking about Fantasy Wedding Points (FWP) with my roommate recently. She is also sitting on 11 FWP. Her comment was that her friends are divided into two categories: Category 1 is all the married (or soon to be married) people; Category 2 is all the people who have never been to a wedding.
What’s interesting is that both groups tend to look at us Fantasy Players with a lack of understanding and a hint of incredulity. Category 1 people just cannot fathom why I am not married yet. Comments such as “There will be some cute bridesmaids there!” or “I can hook you up with my friend, she’d be perfect for you!” seem to flow from Category 1 people all the time. Meanwhile on the other end of the spectrum, Category 2 people cannot fathom the appeal of weddings, scoffing “Really. They are fun?”
While my current positions I much maligned and little understood, it actually has a lot going for it. All of my married friends are busy having real lives and buying real houses which offer me great locations to go and visit. These friends proffer a balanced long-term perspective on all my normally trivial pursuits — “I think you should bike more. Wait, are there girls that bike?” Oh wait, that actually isn’t a benefit.
On the other side of things, I get to dance my face off at all the weddings, and become an expert on wedding options and procedures. This earns me the honor of sharing advice with my buddy who is getting married even though he has only been to one wedding. And what male hasn’t wanted to help plan a friend’s wedding?
Even though the tangible benefits of my position are dubious at best, and that any elite status I can claim is limited to a Fantasy perspective, I don’t care, I still enjoy this position. Just think about this for a little perspective — 15 million people in the United States play Fantasy Football, which definitely has no tangible benefits. Fifteen million people can’t be wrong, can they.

Dont be fooled into believing that Moores two-touchdown, 100-yard game was some kind of an anomaly. Nothing else could be further from the truth. In just Week 4, Moore was targeted 10 times, and in Week 3 he was targeted 7. Thats right, 17 times in 2 games Moore has seen the ball come his way, which means that he isnt getting the ball by virtue of luck but by design. He is a goto player for QB Drew Brees, and he is the Saints most reliable deep threat, even when WR Marques Colston returns to the starting lineup.
In Week 5 of fantasy football, Moore has a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. This is definitely a matchup that is in his favor, because the Vikings just arent good at defending the pass. And as we all know, the Saints are very good in the passing game, which makes this a very favorable matchup for the Saints, especially for Lance Moore who has emerged as their #1 wide receiving threat in the absence of Colston. The Saints should put up a heavy amount of passing yardage against the Vikings defense; one, because they love to throw the ball, and two, because the Vikings run defense will deter the Saints from handing the rock off. So I expect a lot of attempts from QB Drew Brees and therefore a lot of targets (and hopefully catches) for my man Lance Moore, who should have a big fantasy football day in Week 5.

My 5 Wide Receivers are.
1) T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cinn vs Cle)
2) Braylon Edwards (Cle vs Cinn)
3) Chris Chambers (SD vs Oak)
4) Terrell Owens (Dal vs Was)
5) Santana Moss (Was vs. Dal)
3 of them will play Sunday, Who should I start and then place as 2 and 3 respectively? Please and Thank You.
1.) Terrell Owens is just a must start every week.
2.) Houshmandzadeh has been getting a lot of throws. Against the Giant defense, he was unstoppable and now going up against a Brown defense.. you can figure it out yourself.
3.) Santana Moss. Most people will say Im an idiot, but against the Cowboys, Moss has been great. Also, Campbell is a beast against the Cowboys which means that you have a good WR with a good QB who are both streaking against that team. A must play.

These are the weeks where fantasy champions are made. These are the weeks where the fantasy elite are separated from the fantasy players that are just glad to be here. As long as there are injuries, coaching moves, bye weeks, and waiver wire prospects there is always a chance to win regardless of who goes down. Players like J.T. OSullivan, Chris Perry, Darren Sproles, Julius Jones, and a slew of solid rookies have come on to the scene to make early impacts. When the season started who would have thought that through three games: Ladainian Tomlinson would be ranked 17th in rushing with a paltry 3.3 ypc. How about Hank Baskett and rookie TE John Carlson both having more receiving yards than Randy Moss or Kyle Orten and Brian Griese both having more passing yards and TDs than Carson Palmer.

I will be attending the St. Louis Rams vs. Buffalo Bills game today in St. Louis. I am not a fan of either team but have yet to visit Edwards Jones stadium and wouldnt mind seeing the rising Bills in action. As a die hard Lions fan I felt it necessary to address Matt Millen in some way after his glorious firing from my favorite troubled franchise. I wll be holding a Rams: Hire Millen sign. Not sure if they will let me in the stadium, but well see. Buffalo will win by 20, and easily cover the -9 point spread. Scott Linehan of the Rams looks like a surefire candidate to be canned early this season. I do feel for the Rams situation but since my Lions are finally free from the reign of Matt Millen I had to find some way to make fun of the situation. Hopefully no-one, not even McDonalds hires Matt Millen (he would try to bring in the best burger flippers and scout high school students and probably make all the wrong decisions).
Big Upsets week 4: I am still somehow predicting that both the 49ers (over the Saints) and the Atlanta Michael Turners (Falcons over the Panthers) will win in big upsets. Good luck to everyone in fantasy football and in their picks this weekyou have to love the NFL.

I know you guys love fantasy football. I love fantasy football. That is why I run this here blog.
But we all have to draw the line between fantasy and reality in our lives, and that definitely includes this fun little game we play.
A man in Florida allegedly could not make that distinction this weekend, as he threatened to kill his roommate over a couple of fantasy football points.
It could not be confirmed if the 35-year-old man was a subscriber to The Hazean, but if he was I want to take this opportunity to make this public service announcement: Please do not take fantasy football too seriously. It is a fun game and can be very competitive. There is nothing better than starting and maintaining a league with 11 of your closest friends. The rivalries mature, smack talk can get fierce and winning is almost everything. But having fun and creating conversation is what the game is all about, not to mention how great a live draft can be.

With so many teams on bye weeks, we were left with less football and less options for the waiver wire. Though there werent as many games, there was certainly plenty of action. The Kansas City Chiefs got their first win in dominating the unbeaten Denver Broncos, the Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys on the road in the last year of the old Texas Stadium and some guy named Brett Favre threw six touchdown passes.
This week, injuries and players being benched have opened the door for the guys on the Week 4 Waiver Wire. Also, be sure to check out the watch list, especially if youre in a deeper league looking for that little extra edge.
QUARTERBACKS
Trent Green (St. Louis Rams)
While the players may not agree with the benching of former starter Marc Bulger, Green is the guy. That is, until coach Scott Linehan gets fired. Many league insiders are reporting Linehan could be fired as soon as this week and if that happens, Bulger will likely be the starter again.
But if Green remains the starter, hes worth a look. Greens a heady veteran with a good arm and some weapons around him. As long as he doesnt try to scramble and get knocked in the head again, Green has some value as a fantasy backup. Still, the situation in St. Louis is quickly becoming messy, so keep your eye on everything thats going on before giving a roster spot to Green.
JaMarcus Russell (Oakland Raiders)
Russell was asked to throw a lot against the Chargers and passed the test as he was 22-of-37 for 277 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

UPDATE: There's a report on NFL.com saying Palmer might not play. More news before gametime.
(11:23 a.m. ET) OK, so Ravens CBSamari Rolle is out tomorrow. So is the aforementioned Willie Parker, which means the Steelers may throw more often than usual at a weakened Baltimore secondary. Doesn't this add up to the overdue Santonio Holmes breakout?
(11:28 a.m. ET) Here's a different point of view on the Baltimore RB situation from frequent commenter and Ravens watcher The Mick. It's definitely food for thought. Maybe the fantasy world is overreacting on McGahee?
If McGahee's good to go, I don't know about the by committee concept applying ... I think it was a smoke-screen when Harbaugh leaked to the press all summer that McGahee was in the doghouse, hadn't learned the plays, etc. ... Then, in his first game of the season last week he got 12 of the first 14 carries for the Ravens plus a trick play where he lateraled - including the goal line plays after McClain had a long run to the 4-yard line ... I think he'd have been over 20 carries if he didn't have obvious eye problems during the game.
(11:36 a.m. ET) An NFL Network report says that Carson Palmer will be the emergency third QB for the Bengals today. Get him out of your lineup.
(11:46 a.m. ET) UPDATE: Palmer's officiallyOUT for the Bengals, asare Bengals RB Kenny Watson and Browns WR Donte Stallworth.
(11:52 a.m. ET) In addition to Galloway being inactive, here's a reminder that QB Brian Griese starts again for the Bucs, with Jeff Garcia banished to the emergency world.
(11:58 a.m. ET) Brett Favre is officially active for the Jets, WR Jerry Porter will finally play for the Jaguars, and RB Ahman Green is OUT again for the Texans, Go, Steve Slaton!
(12:03 p.m. ET) Stop the presses! WR Sidney Rice is active for the Vikings!
(12:06 p.m. ET) WR Bryant Johnson will play for the 49ers, as will WR David Patten for the Saints. FYI, the Freaks' sleepers are as follows: WRs Josh Reed and Isaac Bruce for Harmon, WRs James Hardy and Lance Moore for Burns, and QB Trent Edwards and TE Zach Miller for Lundy. I've got a weird hunch about Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton today, if he qualifies as a sleeper.
All the inactive lists are in, so that's it for me today. I'll answer comments below until about 12:30. Otherwise, the blog will be backMonday morning, though I'm not quite sure if it'll need to cover one more day of baseball before switching to football. Either way, thanks for reading and commenting. I'll be spending my day neglecting my kids and hitting every 13 seconds on the real-time scoring page for the fantasy baseball league mentioned above. Wish me luck.

part twoof our interview together. If you haven't already been doing so, you should definitely keep tabs on him every day at his website as he travels the country, talks to fans and lives his dream through the ultimate football fan experience.
But wait, there's more! Adam and I have been in contact all summer since our first interview. Through a few emails over the internet and inspired by one single passion, Adam and I struck a friendly deal. When Adam's trip takes him to New Orleans in November to see the Saints take on the Packers on Monday Night Football, he will be attending the game with me in Section 108 while I show him a good time and give him the full Who Dat experience. In exchange, Adam is taking me to the Saints game against the Chargers in London on October 26th. I have already booked my flight and made my hotel reservations. Thats right, CSC is going international baby!! I am incredibly excited to be in London for this once in a lifetime experience and I will surely be taking lots of pictures and keeping all of you updated right here on CSC as my weekend unfolds.

1. Marshawn Lynch (BUF) While he certainly isnt on pace to break any rushing yardage records so far this season, Lynch has been taking care of business in the red zone. After last weeks 2 TD performance, he has now scored at least 1TD in each of his first 3 games, totaling 4 all together. He will match up against a terrible St. Louis run defense in week 4. The average game for the Rams defense so far this season, 184 rushing yards allowed, 2 rushing TDs allowed, and 2 runs of 20 yards or more per game. Lynch should finally eclipse the 100 yard rushing mark and back to back multiple TD games look to be a strong possibility.
2. Frank Gore (SF) He is a little behind where we thought he might be at this point in the season, but he has scored a TD in every game so far, not to mention averaging 137 total yards per game, so its hard to complain. Gore should continue to produce on a high level against a shaky Saints run defense in week 4. Only 3 teams in the NFL are giving up more yards per carry than New Orleans 5.3 ypc average. The Saints have also allowed 3 rushing TDs. As usual, Gore is a no brainer for your starting fantasy line up.
3. Marion Barber (DAL) If you were to look at Barbers history against the Redskins and go on that alone, there is probably no chance you would have him in your starting line up this week. In his last 4 games against Washington he is only averaging 47 total yards per game, and only has 1 TD in all 4 games combined. It doesnt look all that promising, but the fact of the matter is that you can not bench arguably the best fantasy RB so far this season just because of the past. He had horrible track records against Green Bay and Philadelphia too, and he came out smelling like roses against them this year. Is the week 4 match up a little scary? Sure it is, but this guy is on fire, and you would have to be certified crazy to sit him, no matter how gloomy the past might look.
4. LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) While it was comforting to finally see L.T. plowing his way back into the end zone on Monday night, it was quite obvious that his toe injury is still an issue. He should progress a little each week, but it could still be a while before he completely returns to form. A match up at Oakland should bolster Tomlinsons progress in week 4. He has historically dominated the Raiders defense. In his last 4 games against them, he has accumulated 8 TDs. Bad toe or not, we like Tomlinsons chances for another strong game in week 4. Check injury report: toe (full practice on Thursday)
5. Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) As we expected Jones-Drew finally broke out of his slump with a big game in week 3. You can probably expect more of the same from him in week 4 at home against Houston. The Texans run defense has been horrid in their first 2 games giving up 5 TDs and 337 yards on the ground. In addition, Jones-Drew has scored at least 1 TD against the Texans in each and every one of his 3 career games against them, including a 184 total yard, 2 TD performance against them last season. Check injury report: ankle (did not practice on Thursday)

Read Part II Here
I have never watched a UFC fight before. I have seen pieces of fights as I flip through channels. Or at a friend’s place if they have the TV on. But I have never sat down to watch a UFC event. As I am watching the end of Star Wars Return of the Jedi, and I am seeing commercials for this event, Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer, and I feel the need to watch it. I mean there has to be a reason that so many people like it.
40 minutes to Fight Night Live: The death star has just fired on a Rebel cruiser. Luke is fighting the dark inside him.
30 min to: Luke kicks Vader down the stairs. “Obi-Wan has taught you well.” Now this is a fight.
2 min 45 seconds to: All the main characters are rejoicing with the Ewoks, if this is the case, who is guarding the fleet? Piloting the ships. Is noone worried that there are sill high ranking empire officials who want to attack them? Furthermore, what the hell made George Lucas decide to put the spirit of young Anakin Skywalker on the screen with Yoda and Obi-Wan? Why wouldn’t the spirit look like the Vader that died? And if they look like the young versions of themselves why isn’t Ewan McGregor’s image on the screen.
Opening Credits: Sick music.
Live from Nebraska: Is the UFC the only sport that openly associates itself with the reality show of itself? I don’t think football ever advertises “2 a Days.” Clay Guida is a scary looking guy, I wouldn’t want to meet him in an alley.
Alexander vs. Schaffer: Home town advantage. I root for Houston Alexander. He is going to give his home town a good showing. Wow. Omaha is now booing Schaffer. I didn’t know that home town fans rooted for their boys so much.
4:04 left in 1st: A great kick to the leg by Houston, but ehy are his shorts so tight and short. Can’t he wear board shorts likr the other guy?
2:10 left: Feel good story about the home town hero. But my roommate points out that a guy with 6 kids has no business being in the ring where he could make them all orphans.
0:50 left: And this is exactly why. Continuous blows to the head are not good for anyone.
SCHAFER WINS!! Oh wow, the Assassin taps out. “That is the greatest shit of all time” Schafer’s buddy says to him. And the line on Shafer’s shirt “Jesus didn’t tap.” You know this guy is full of himself. But I guess you have to think you are the shit to get in the Octagon on a regular basis.
I enjoyed my first fight. It went a full round, I got to see a guy get pummelled in the face, tap out due to an ‘arm triangle’ (I don’t know what that is but it sounds sweet). Hey Star Wars The Force Unleashed sponsors the UFC. When Jedi’s back your sport you know something good is going down for you.
Shout out to the deceased hero, classic.
And back to commercials.
I don’t know what pit fight is. But the commercial that just aired makes it look awesome. If this fight keeps me interested, maybe I will watch that.
Opportunity Knocks. A new show. Whoever thought to bring reality TV and game shows together is an idiot. (Granted I openly hate reality TV but still this looks dumb) How much of the show is a game show and how much is them turning the street into a game show. Will I get to here sappy family stories if I watch. This sounds like shit. I encourage you to watch.
Herman vs. Belcher: Herman seems to be confident that he will control the fight, claiming to be able to keep it standing or on the ground depending on what he wants. So I will pick Alan ‘the Talent’ Belcher. (Note that I never read anything on these fighters and are picking them solely by nicknames and facial expressions only.) How do I keep picking the guys with short shorts.
3:52 left in first: I just realized what the Ultimate Fighter is like. It is like Farm Teams. They need to develop new talent right, cause Chuck Lidell (the only MMA fighter I have ever heard of, thanks Entourage!) won’t fight forever. So they use this reality show, get to air it and make money from it and hopefully get some new fighters ready to go.
1:50 left in 1st: Apparently some time in Thailand will not only make you stronger but it will also sharpen your mind! What great colour commentary.
0:10 left in 1st: Herman keeps going for some kind of choke. All I think is Vulcan Death Grip. As soon as the bell rings they go to commercial. Not even a lead out. That is maximizing ad space!
2:45 left in 2nd: A switch to southpaw by my boy Belcher. A risky move considering the constraints of dexterity.
0:09 left in 2nd: Wow what a punch. Fakes him out by looking to the side and then just jumps and punches to the top of the head. Its my kind of move. I picked the right guy, win or lose.
4:59 left in 3rd: They start by high fiving. How cute.
2:15 left in third: Belcher keeps looking at the clock. I can’t tell if this is good or bad. Is he tired or cocky? Or is he in league with the mafia and needs Herman to fall at a certain point.
Fight over. They go the distance. Impressive feat of athletic ability. One Vote Belcher. One against. SPLIT DECISION. My boy wins. It was all the superman punch. OK, this guy is crazy. Literally, he can’t talk right now. He is getting defensive about his critics. And now he told the place where to go party. Do MMA fighters get to drink, or is that against their training? Either way I bet that is a good party. Or at least a good sausage fest.

After another brutal and crazy week of football it is now time to prepare for the week ahead. Whether youve been the victim of another key injury or youd just like to add a little depth to that roster of yours youve come to the right place for help as weve prepared a list of key players to pick up before week 3.
Brian Griese: Quarterback Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is for all of you Carson Palmer and Tom Brady owners who are not willing to trade to improve your terrible quarterback situation. The Bucs are looking to move Garcia and the Vikings look like a probable canidate. Griese shouldnt be a stud but he is in a weak division and should start the rest of the year.
6% owned in Yahoo! leagues.
Darren Sproles: Running Back San Diego Chargers- Sproles is a playmaker and is now favored over Jacob Hester as the primary back up to LaDainian Tomlinson who is harboring an injury. Sproles might see an increased workload and is still going to be an electrifying return man.
33% owned in Yahoo! leagues
Michael Bush: Running Back Oakland Raiders- Darren McFadden will be the ultimate beneficiary to Justin Fargass groin injury but look for the Raiders to give Bush some carries in their run first, run second, run third offensive system. Last week he had 16 carries for 90 yards and a TD. It seems like McFadden and Bush should both put up big numbers while sharing the ball.
5% owned in Yahoo! leagues.
John Carlson: Tight End Seattle Seahawks- The Seahawks have lost numerous WRs to injury this year. The WR corps has been absolutely decimated. It seems Carlson is now their big threat in the passing game. Against SF he recorded 6 recs and had 78 yards. Carlson is not a well known name and didnt have highlight type plays against SF, but had a solid game and could be a sleeper to keep on the bench.
10% owned in Yahoo! leagues.
Justin Gage: Wide Receiver Tennessee Titans- Kerry Collins loves this guy. Gage is Collins go to guy. Sunday he had 5 recs for 59 yards and a TD. Last year he was the Titans leading WR in terms of yards in 7 of 16 games. He may not be available in a lot of leagues. If hes available in yours I recommend grabbing him now.
